So what is a postpartum doula?

A postpartum doula is a support person who provides practical and emotional support to a mother  and her family after the birth of a new baby.

Nurture Her. is a pregnancy, birth, and postpartum resource. Browse articles for information on different topics and get in contact with us for 1:1 virtual coaching and childbirth classes!

As a postpartum doula my mission is to empower, educate, and support mothers and their families as they navigate life with a new little one.  The postpartum period, also known as the “fourth trimester”, is a tender and vulnerable time for mothers. I am here to encourage and support you so that you can focus on recovering and bonding with your baby.  My services include education and troubleshooting for breast and/or bottle feeding, infant soothing techniques, the mom’s emotional & physical recovery, and helping parents cope with the life transition of welcoming a baby.

Meet Kelly

Hi I am Kelly,  a student doula with the Elite Doula and Co Training Academy. I live in Central Massachusetts with my family.  I am a mother to 3 girls…3 years old and under! My current services include prenatal and postnatal support, including but not limited to breastfeeding education and support, childbirth preparation, and postpartum well visits. I offer in-person and remote services for consults and courses.

My passion for working in the birth world began after the birth of my first daughter.  I felt wildly underprepared for the birth experience and postpartum recovery.  I had the blessing of an amazing postpartum nurse during my hospital stay. She was gentle, caring, encouraging, and offered hands-on support to teach me soothing techniques for my baby. I knew at that moment that one day I wanted to take on the same role to support new mothers. Soon after, I began researching birth coping skills, breastfeeding tips, and information about postpartum needs for new moms.  I was able to go on to have two empowering, healing births and was well-prepared for postpartum life.

I am a current nursing student pursuing a bachelor’s of science in nursing.  I hope to use my medical training and doula role to be a bridge for medical providers and birthing families.

My philosophy:
When women are informed and supported, there is almost nothing we can’t do! God created our bodies in an amazing way to grow and birth new life.
“Don’t hold the baby, hold the mother”.  So often in our society a mother’s wellness is overlooked after the baby is born. I want all mothers to feel seen, heard, and supported when welcoming a new baby into the world.  My mission is to spread awareness of the ways new mothers need support in the prenatal and postpartum stages.  I am here to support mothers and their families and offer resources to connect you to your community and the appropriate specialists for care for mom and baby after birth.
